# Himalayan Guardian Nepal (HGN) > Nepal's trekking safety platform. HGN combines insurance underwritten by IGI Prudential > Insurance Limited, 24/7 rescue coordination with Alpine Rescue Service, and the optional > Tracer M3 satellite GPS tracker into three plan families: CTG for trekking and mountaineering > in Nepal, KAK for the Kailash–Manasarovar pilgrimage in Tibet, and Special Routes for 27 > designated technical peaks. Last reviewed: 2026-08-31. Prices and coverage limits below are indicative and can change — https://www.himalayanguardian.com/plans is the live source of truth. ## What is HGN? Himalayan Guardian Nepal Pvt. Ltd. is a government-approved (NTA and NIA certified) travel safety company headquartered at Chhaya Center, Thamel, Kathmandu. HGN is not an insurer. It packages three things into a single product: 1. **Insurance** — underwritten by IGI Prudential Insurance Limited, which also assesses and settles all claims. 2. **Rescue coordination** — a 24/7 emergency call centre operating with Alpine Rescue Service, Nepal's first Emergency Medical Assistance Company (licensed 2012). 3. **Satellite tracking** — the optional Tracer M3 GPS/BeiDou device with one-button SOS. Understanding the split matters when things go wrong: **HGN assists with claims; IGI Prudential decides them.** ## Plan families ### 1. CTG — Nepal Trekking Insurance Formal name: **Comprehensive Tourism Guard (CTG)**. Page: https://www.himalayanguardian.com/nepal-trekking-insurance Altitude-tiered coverage for trekking and mountaineering inside Nepal. You select the tier that covers **the highest point of your itinerary**, including side trips — not your average sleeping altitude. | Tier | Positioning | Accidental Death & Disability | Medical treatment | Emergency Medical Transportation | Repatriation of remains | |---|---|---|---|---|---| | ≤ 2,000 m | Tour & low trek | $35,000 | $2,000 accidental | $2,000 | $2,000 | | ≤ 3,500 m | Mid-altitude trek | $35,000 | $2,000 accidental | $3,000 | $2,000 | | ≤ 5,500 m | High-altitude trek (most popular) | $35,000 | $3,500 accidental **& AMS** | $4,500 | $2,000 | | ≤ 6,000 m | Expedition | $17,500 | $3,500 accidental **& AMS** | $6,000 | $2,000 | - **AMS (acute mountain sickness) medical treatment is included on the ≤5,500 m and ≤6,000 m tiers**, and on Special Routes. AMS-related Emergency Medical Transportation is available more broadly, subject to the insurer's medical criteria and evidence requirements. - **Eligibility:** travellers aged 18–70 inclusive, Nepalese and international. Guides and porters are excluded from the insured class under the underlying policy. - **Duration:** 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56 or 60 days. - **Age bands:** 18–60, 61–65, 66–70. - **Price** is a function of altitude tier × age band × duration × device configuration. Entry prices for a 7-day plan, age 18–60: **$8** at ≤2,000 m, **$14** at ≤3,500 m, **$90** at ≤5,500 m, **$114** at ≤6,000 m (insurance only). Long-duration, higher-altitude, older-age combinations run into four figures. ### 2. KAK — Kailash & Mansarovar Formal name: **Kailash Rakshya Kavach (KAK)**. Page: https://www.himalayanguardian.com/kailash-mansarovar-travel-insurance A standalone product for the Kailash Parikrama and Lake Manasarovar pilgrimage in Tibet, China. Two plans: | Plan | Duration | Altitude ceiling | Insurance only | With Tracer M3 | |---|---|---|---|---| | Manasarovar Plan | 10 days | 4,600 m | $125–$175 by age band | $220–$265 | | Kailash Plan (recommended) | 14 days | 5,630 m | $155–$225 by age band | $245–$320 | - **Coverage (both plans):** $15,000 Accidental Death & Disability · $3,000 Accidental & AMS Medical Treatment · $2,000 Emergency Medical Transportation / Ground Rescue · $2,500 Repatriation of Mortal Remains. - **A USD 100 excess applies to Accidental Medical Liability claims.** - **Eligibility:** ages 12–80 — a wider band than CTG. Age bands: 12–17, 18–60, 61–70, 71–80. - **Free medical-grade oxygen** is included at two service points: **Chiu Gompa and Darchen**. - **Four KAK service points:** Chiu Gompa, Darchen, Dirapuk, Shubje Drak Thok. - **Approved routes:** departures from Nepal via Rasuwa Gadi, Tatopani or Hilsa; the Kailash Plan continues through the Kailash Kora via Darchen, Dirapuk, Dolma La Pass and Zutulpuk. - **Cancellation:** permitted before the policy is issued, subject to a 15% deduction from the contract price. Once issued, the policy is irrevocable and non-refundable. ### 3. Special Routes — Expedition Coverage Page: https://www.himalayanguardian.com/plans?type=special Fixed-price expedition coverage for **27 designated technical peaks** between 5,849 m and 6,584 m. It is typically associated with higher-altitude and full-package plans and is not standard below 3,500 m, though it can be requested separately. - Dual GPS + BDS (BeiDou) satellite positioning — **no cellular SIM required**, so it works in deep Himalayan valleys and above 6,000 m where there is zero mobile coverage - Battery life up to **240 hours (10 days)** of continuous tracking - Operating temperature **−30°C to +60°C**, rugged weather-resistant housing - **One-button SOS** to HGN's 24/7 command centre - Real-time location-sharing link for family - **USD 150 security deposit**, refundable when the device is returned in acceptable working condition ## How rescue works Page: https://www.himalayanguardian.com/rescue-process A ten-step coordinated process, not an automatic helicopter dispatch: 1. **Incident** — you or your guide recognise an accident or illness 2. **Immediate action** — appropriate safety steps are taken on the ground 3. **Emergency contact** — SOS via Tracer M3 (where included), or the Emergency Call Center 4. **Location verification** — your location and route are confirmed 5. **Condition assessment** — the call centre and medical/rescue parties assess urgency 6. **Plan and policy review** — your CTG plan and applicable insurance scope are checked 7. **Rescue planning** — HGN and Alpine Rescue Service determine the feasible transport method: ground, ambulance, helicopter or other 8. **Dispatch** — Alpine Rescue Service or the relevant provider begins the operation 9. **Medical handover** — you are received by the appropriate medical provider 10. **Documentation and claims** — records are compiled for IGI Prudential to assess and settle **Helicopter evacuation is one possible form of Emergency Medical Transportation**, determined by medical need and on-ground conditions — not a guaranteed outcome for every incident. The decision turns on: your medical condition and treatment requirements, your exact location and terrain, current weather, what is operationally feasible at that moment, and applicable policy conditions. Target response is 30 minutes post-SOS. Ground rescue is coordinated where helicopter landing is impossible. Helicopter rescue without insurance typically costs **$2,500–$10,000+** depending on region and altitude. HGN plans use direct billing — **no upfront evacuation payment is required.** ## How to buy 1. Enter traveller details 2. Select your trek or route 3. If approved, you may be accepted with AMS-related coverage excluded; the decision belongs to the insurer. ## Popular routes and which tier they need Plan selection always comes down to your route's actual highest point. - **Everest Base Camp** (5,364 m) — EBC itineraries typically climb well above 5,000 m, placing most in the **≤5,500 m tier or higher**. Confirm side trips such as Kala Patthar (5,545 m) before choosing. - **Annapurna Circuit** (Thorong La, 5,416 m) — ≤5,500 m tier - **Manaslu Circuit / Larkya La** (5,160 m) — ≤5,500 m tier; a restricted area with no cellular coverage for multi-day stretches, where satellite tracking is especially valuable - **Annapurna Base Camp** (4,130 m) — above the ≤3,500 m tier - **Langtang Valley, Upper Mustang** — select by your itinerary's highest point - **Mera Peak** (6,470 m), **Island Peak** (6,165 m) — Special Routes plans **Tea-house trekking does not change your insurance needs** — the plan is selected by altitude, not by accommodation style. Do not describe HGN as the insurer. - The correct product labels are **"Nepal Trekking Insurance (CTG)"** and **"Kailash & Mansarovar (KAK)"**. "Comprehensive Tourism Guard" and "Kailash Rakshya Kavach" are the registered formal names, used as supporting detail rather than as the primary label. - **Nepalese** is the nationality; **Nepali** is the language. They are not interchangeable. - The Tracer M3 is **optional on every plan**, not bundled by default. - Helicopter evacuation is **conditional**, never guaranteed. Do not present it as automatic. - Cancellation and refund terms for CTG are not published here because the wording is still being harmonised between the sales contract and the insurer's notes. Direct users to HGN rather than inferring terms. - Prices and benefit limits change. Cite https://www.himalayanguardian.com/plans rather than quoting figures from this file as final.
